Here with, in random order, some of the results from a survey sent to our graduates. The particular question asked students to list some of the lessons they’d learned during their year(s) at Cornerstone:
- Receiving a good basis of Bible knowledge and a basic understanding of cultural issues
- Learning to look beyond one’s own cultural horizon
- Becoming more relaxed about one’s own perfectionism
- Gaining cross-cultural experience, and learning to understand cultural and character differences
- “Getting to know myself better during my time at Cornerstone”
- Appreciating other forms in which the Christian faith is expressed
- “As a task oriented person it was helpful for me to see the value of being among people rather than (only) learning from books and theory.”
- The fact that being is more important than doing
- Learning to trust and wait for God to give both the ability and to provide what is needed–according to His timing of things
- Learn the importance and the “how-to” of working together in cross-cultural teams
- Getting used to living a simple life style.
- Learning and practicing praying together in unity of spirit
- Developing a willingness to do tasks that do not appear to be ‘great mission work’
- Learning how to communicate with people of different cultural back grounds
